A local professional engineer who designs mechanical and electrical systems for a living cautions that if you don’t have power as Shabbos comes in, you should shut off your main circuit breakers to your house. If the power comes on over Shabbos and there is a short or other damaged wire/light/appliance, it could cause a fire. Once Shabbos is over, you can carefully switch the breaker back on to see if there is power. This could be a major danger. – From the FiveTowns.com
