Andy Warhol’s Brillo boxes, currently on display at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York as part of the “Andy Warhol — From A to B and Back Again” retrospective, represent an authentic depiction of the product, right down to the kosher-certification symbol of the Orthodox Union.

Said Jamie Geller, bestselling author of the cookbook Joy of Kosher, “As far as I’m aware, this may, in fact, be one of the most famous works featuring a kosher symbol.”

Warhol famously painted Campbell’s soup cans but those don’t include the OU symol. The OU did once certify some Campbell’s soups but when the company began producing them in the same plant as non-kosher chicken soup, it became impossible to continue certifying them, according to Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of OU Kosher.

The Orthodox Union maintains a legal team to protect against unauthorized use of the trademarked symbol but the Warhol exhibit is in no danger according to Rabbi Genack as the work of art accurately portrays a certified product.
