Polish PM “Proud” of Anti-Semitic Historical Event

Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime minister of Poland, said that Polish citizens should be proud of the 1968 events in which anti-Semitism drove thousands of Jews from the country.

“We often hear that March ’68 should be a reason for shame for Poland,” Morawiecki said. “For Poles who have fought for freedom, they should be a source of pride.” Polskie Radio, which reported on the prime minister’s remarks, did not include an explanation as to why Poles should be proud of the month in which anti-Semitic posters appeared throughout Poland. Following months of anti-Semitic incitement, thousands of Jews left Poland for Israel before being stripped of their citizenship.
