This Shabbat: OU’s Rabbi Kalinsky to be Beth Israel Scholar-in-Residence in Edmonton

OU WEST COAST DIRECTOR, RABBI ALAN KALINSKY, TO BE SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE AT BETH ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE IN EDMONTON THIS SHABBAT, JULY 13-14

Rabbi Alan Kalinsky, Director of the Orthodox Union West Coast Region, will be Scholar-in-Residence at Beth Israel in Edmonton, July 13-14, addressing the congregation four times over the course of Shabbat, Parshat Pinchas.

On Friday night he will deliver the D’var Torah between the Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv services. On Shabbat morning, he will deliver the Drasha on Jewish Leadership: Compassionate vs. Zealotry. In a lecture following lunch, he will speak on From Midway to the Mideast – How a Naval Battle in the Pacific Helped Defeat Hitler and Aided in the Creation of the Modern State of Israel. At the third meal of Shabbat, he will discuss, Why was the Second Beit HaMikdash Destroyed?

In addition, Rabbi Kalinsky was invited to be the Guest Speaker at Beth Israel’s Annual General Meeting. He will discuss the current issues confronting the Orthodox community and how the OU is addressing these matters.
