As Florida State Representative Randy Fine, the breakfast’s honoree and security funding champion, said, the future is in the community’s hands. “We have school security funding in the budget now but there are bigger and better things ahead. I believe that in this legislature, over the next few years, you will see expanded school choice, but we will need all of your help to get there. Let your representatives, senators and the Governor know that this is something important to you because we do listen. That is why you have elected officials here today.”“If showing up when it counts is an important part of our advocacy work, today’s sold out crowd shows that the community is majorly engaged in the fight to tackle the security and tuition crisis,” said Mimi Jankovits, Executive Director of Teach Florida. “The community’s involvement in advocacy and voting in 2018 are important for continued government funding and programs.”
A sold out crowd at Teach Florida’s first legislative breakfast included 300 parents, school and Shul leaders, and community members who met with 20 elected officials to express appreciation for $654,000 in state funds for Jewish school security, along with the many programs and services that help our schools and students. Continued funding for Jewish school security is a priority in the upcoming legislative session for Teach Florida, a project of the Orthodox Union.
