RABBI STEVEN AND YAEL WEIL OF THE ORTHODOX UNION RETURN AS SHAVUOT SCHOLARS-IN-RESIDENCE AT YOUNG ISRAEL OF NORTH BEVERLY HILLS, MAY 26-28

Orthodox Union Executive Vice President Rabbi Steven Weil, and his wife, Yael, will once again serve as Scholars-in-Residence for the holiday of Shavuot at the Young Israel of North Beverly Hills (YINBH). Lectures will be given at the OU member synagogue, located at 9261 Alden Drive in Beverly Hills. The Weils previously visited YINBH as Scholars-in-Residence for Shavuot last year.

This year, Shavuot begins after Shabbat on Saturday night, May 26, and extends to Monday, May 28.

Rabbi Alan Kalinsky, Director of the OU West Coast Region, formerly also served as spiritual leader at the shul. “It’s a pleasure to welcome Rabbi Steven and Yael Weil back to YINBH for Shavuot for a second consecutive year,” he said.

According to Philip Kaufler, President of YINBH, a large turnout is expected from across Los Angeles to celebrate the congregation’s first Yom Tov in its new building.

On Shabbat morning, Rabbi Weil will address “How Do We Say the HafTorah?” Mrs. Weil will speak Saturday night at 8:45 p.m. on “Killing Us with Kindness: Do We Really Need Two Role Models for Chesed?” Following a special dinner with the Weil family at the synagogue, Rabbi Weil will discuss “How to Have an Open Mind and Honest Rendezvous With the Almighty: Tefillah in the Eyes of the Rav.”

Sunday morning, Rabbi Weil will discuss “Why Did They Eradicate the Ten Commandments?” At 5:15 p.m. he will give a special shiur on “The World’s Most Controversial Leader.” Rabbi Weil will also discuss “Ruth and the Conversion Crisis” after 6:30 p.m. mincha.

On the second day of Shavuot, Rabbi Weil will discuss “This May Be a Very Hot Summer” during morning services. Mrs. Weil will speak during the luncheon for members of YINBH on “Ladies First – Why the Bais Yaakov Preceded the Bnai Yisrael in the Giving of the Torah.” Rabbi and Mrs. Weil will present a joint shiur following 6:30 p.m. mincha on “What is the Ultimate Chok (Decree)?”
