OU HONORS RIVKAH AND RABBI ZEV LEFF, OF MOSHAV MATITYAHU, AND VIVIAN AND DR. DAVID LUCHINS, OF NEW YORK, FOR 50 CONSECUTIVE YEARS OF INVOLVEMENT IN NCSY

From Left: Dr. David Luchins, first recipient, together with his wife, Vivian, of the “Sarah Rivkah and Dr. Bernard Lander Memorial Award;” Rabbi Steven Weil, Executive Vice President of the OU; Dr. David Hurwitz, Honorary National President, NCSY; Rabbi Zev Leff, recipient, together with his wife, Rivkah, of the “Ezra Ben-Zion Lightman Memorial Award.”

The Orthodox Union honored Vivian and Dr. David Luchins of New York and Rivkah and Rabbi Zev Leff of Moshav Matityahu in Israel (formerly of North Miami Beach) for 50 years of involvement with NCSY | Jewish Youth Leadership, the OU’s international youth program. The award ceremony was at the annual reception of the Ben Zakkai Honor Society, NCSY’s “Alumni Hall of Fame,” held last week in New York. The evening reception also paid tribute to the remarkable legacy of Dr. Bernard Lander zt”l.

The Luchins and the Leffs were among 400 teenagers who attended NCSY Founding Events in the Catskills and Miami in May 1961. Four of those teenagers have stayed involved for 50 years – Vivian, David, Rivkah and Zev. One reason, perhaps, is that they met their respective spouses in NCSY. The Luchins’ are the only married couple who both serve on the Orthodox Union Board of Directors. Both the Luchins’ and the Leffs’ are regulars at NCSY events including National Conventions as well as other Orthodox Union gatherings.
