Help Puerto Rico

27 Sep 2017
Community

The Orthodox Union sends its thoughts and prayers to all those impacted by Hurricane Maria. We also want to express our deep concern about the worsening conditions in Puerto Rico. Now, one week after the storm, Puerto Rico still has no electricity and extremely limited supplies of food and water have created a dire situation for everyone on the Island.

In an effort to help, the Orthodox Union, in conjunction with Governor Cuomo, is encouraging New Yorkers to drop off any of the items listed below for donation at selected locations between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

JetBlue has committed to $1 million as an in-kind contribution to transport customers and cargo for relief efforts.

Requested items include batteries, flashlights, portable lanterns, diapers, baby wipes, cases of water and feminine hygiene products. All items must be completely unopened and packaged.

The Chabad of Puerto Rico sustained damage but continues to function as a place which is providing refuge, meals, an electronics charging station and shelter for residents. Volunteers are needed to help distribute critical supplies such as water, clothing, pillows and blankets. Rabbi Mendel Zarchi and his family are actively working on procuring more supplies to support the residents in the hardest hit areas of the Island.
