Community Fair 2019 Profile Information Dear Community Rep: One of the most important aspects of our Community Fair is the Community Guide booklet that is given to each guest who attends the Fair. (Following the Fair the Guide is available for purchase -- we are still getting requests for the 2017 Guide!) Please submit Profile Form by MAY 1. Creating an effective Community Profile is crucial. The following are suggestions to assist you in preparing your Profile. Length of profile length: 200-250 words -- length is important. If it is too long, it might not be read by Fair visitors. Focus should be on community. Avoid mention of the synagogue(s) in the first or second sentence. Affordable housing – what does a 3/4-bedroom house start at? Are apartments available? Rental costs? Is housing within WALKING DISTANCE OF ORTHODOX SYNAGOGUES Is there an Income tax? If so, how does it compare with metro-NY income tax? Property taxes? How do they compare with metro-NY taxes? Sales tax? Job opportunities –specify industries and types of jobs; what companies are there? Which companies employ members of Orthodox Jewish community? Do you provide any assistance with identifying job opportunities? Hospitals –are there any prominent medical facilities nearby? Universities – what is close by (graduate students may be looking for communities near a university that they are considering attending) Typical length of time of commute to/from work? Mass transit availability Traffic Retirees/Senior amenities JCC (Jewish Community Center) Hashkafa of community – avoid “frum” -- use Modern Orthodox; diverse? -- (Orthodox should have cap O) What cities are close by? How far driving/flying to NYC metro area AVOID: phrases like: Hidden treasure; best kept secret Schools: how many? Types: Preschool, Elementary, High School Local family entertainment – action parks, museums, etc. Limit: history of area/local synagogue to a sentence. – limit information on warmth/friendliness of community. School vouchers Weather (if it provides motivation to move) What else makes your community unique? PICTURES – use families/people –not just empty buildings -- please provide 3 or 4 high res JPGS.
