Anne Frank’s Visa Was Never Processed

Contrary to previous assumptions, a new study by the Anne Frank House concludes that the Frank family were not actually denied entry visas to the United States.

According to the report, while “the United States had a far from generous policy with regard to Jewish refugees, it is clear that Otto, Edith, Margot and Anne Frank were not refused entry to the United States.” Rather, the family’s “immigration visa application to the American consulate in Rotterdam was never processed.”

One delay to the Franks’ immigration process was caused by the 1940 bombing of the US Consulate in Rotterdam. All documents, including the Franks’ visa application, were lost and had to be resubmitted.
