ADL: Anti-Semitic Incidents Soared In 2017

28 Feb 2018
News

According to a recent report by the Anti-Defamation League, the number of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States increased to 1,986 in 2017, more than twice the number in 2015. The reports credits the increase in part to more people reporting anti-Semitism incidents.

Most of the incidents were harassment (including the JCC bomb threats, which turned out not to be credible) or vandalism. The latter includes seven incidents in which Jewish cemeteries were desecrated. While the overall number of incidents was up 57% (43% if one discounts the JCC bomb threats), anti-Semitic physical assaults declined by 47% from 2016.

Unsurprisingly, states with large Jewish populations – specifically New York, New Jersey and California – reported the most anti-Semitic incidents.
