According to a study commissioned by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (the “Claims Conference”), more than one-fifth of US millennials either have not heard of the Holocaust or are unsure if they have heard of it.

1,350 Americans aged 18 and up were interviewed for the study and they were largely misinformed about the Holocaust. For example, 31% of all respondents and 41% of millennials believe that 2 million or fewer Jews were killed in the Holocaust, rather than 6 million.

An overwhelming majority of respondents – 93% – support the idea of Holocaust education in US schools; 58% believe that a Holocaust-like event could happen again.
