NEW JERSEY YACHAD PRESENTS “SPECIAL NEEDS PARENT CONFERENCE AND RESOURCE FAIR,” FEBRUARY 27 IN RIVER EDGE, AS PART OF NORTH AMERICAN INCLUSION MONTH
New Jersey Yachad | Jewish Disabilities Inclusion/The National Jewish Council for Disabilities (NJCD) presents its second “Special Needs Parent Conference and Resource Fair” on Sunday, February 27 from 9:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at The Rosenbaum Yeshiva of Northern Jersey (YNJ), 666 Kinderkamack Road in River Edge. Co-sponsored by the UJA of Northern New Jersey’s Jewish Council for Special Needs, the event is part of Yachad’s month-long NAIM program, which emphasizes Inclusion in the broad Jewish community.
Registration is required at www.njcd.org/parentconference. Registration is $25 per adult, or $36 per family, with lunch and child care included.
The Keynote address will be given by Dr. Daniel J. Tomasulo, who will speak on an area in which he has been deeply involved in development, “Interactive-Behavioral Therapy: Group Treatment for People with Intellectual Disabilities.”
The conference is part of North American Inclusion Month (NAIM), a time frame originated by Yachad specifically designated to raise awareness and to develop sensitivity of what it means for those who live with disabilities, and how to Include them within the greater Jewish community. Chani Herrmann, Director of New Jersey Yachad, declared, “Last year’s conference was such a success and we received wonderful feedback from all the families who attended. Families had the chance to network with one another and learn from each others’ experiences, while their children were enjoying a fun day with Yachad activities and special sibling programs. Since we are sensitive to the fact that parents who have young children find it hard to attend conferences as a family, we provide babysitting and fun childcare programs!”
Workshops will be given throughout the day by field and service specialists on various topics, including accessing services; nutrition; fitness and health; financial planning; transition to adult services; and interventions for autism. A special lunch panel of teenagers will discuss “What Inclusion Means to Our Youth.”
Yachad programs for children with special needs ages 5-16, along with fun sibling programs for age 7-13 years old will be provided throughout the day. Childcare will be available for ages 2-6 years old.
