Two OU Nationwide Webcasts Help Job Seekers, March 18 and March 23

09 Mar 2010

Though we would like to think that age discrimination doesn’t happen to those in the job market, unfortunately, bias does sometimes occur unfairly. To combat age bias in the job market, the Orthodox Union’s Job Board will present a FREE nationwide live webcast, “Ten Strategies for Overcoming Age Bias in Your Job Search,” on Thursday, March 18, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 P.M. EDT.

Those who wish to view the broadcast must register beforehand at www.oujobs.org. Instructions for viewing will be sent after registration.

Michael Rosner, Director of the OU Job Board, declared, “Unfortunately, discrimination in the job market due to one’s age is an all too common occurrence. The OU Job Board believes that everyone, regardless of things like age, religion, and gender, deserves a fair shot at prospective employment opportunities, and we are proud to offer strategies to combat unfair practices to give mature job seekers the best chance at obtaining positions.”

The webcast will be taught by Camille Grabowski, Director of Corporate Relations for OurExperienceCounts.com, and a professional career coach with over 25 years of experience in the recruiting and human resources industries.

Some of the topics covered in the broadcast will include:

• The law regarding age bias
• The most important thing you can do to avoid age bias
• Identifying “age-friendly” employers
• Designing an “age neutral” resume, and
• How to answer tough interview questions.

People going through a divorce often have job problems as well. To accommodate their needs at such a stressful time, the Orthodox Union Job Board will present a free workshop, “From Breakup to Breakthrough,” to be held Tuesday, March 23, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at OU Headquarters in New York and everywhere on the web at www.oujobs.org.

The program will be an interactive group workshop which focuses on the Life Coaching Approach to goal setting and effecting positive change in one’s life.

The instructor will be Heidi Bernstein, founder of Reinvention Life Coaching, and a professional life coach with a specialty in divorce. Based up on her personal and professional experience with the divorce process, Heidi empathetically guides her clients to feel comfortable, supported and increasingly self confident.

Michael Rosner, Director of the Job Board, stated, “As divorce becomes more prevalent within our community, its affects leads to a demoralizing situation and very often a disengagement from society and personal worth. Many times in a traditional home setting a divorcee does not know how to navigate her finances while a divorced man feels lost in many social aspects of life. A loss of confidence; a fear of moving forward on returning to the workforce; advancing your position at work; and feelings of personal failure are common side effects of the ‘new’ reality people find themselves in. This seminar will directly address these issues and more and will help people involved move forward and prioritize their life.”

Registration is required for this free event. Register at www.oujobs.org to watch on the Internet. To attend in person, register online and send a separate e-mail with your full name to jobs@ou.org.
