ALBANY, NY – January 25, 2018: Teach NYS, a nonpartisan project of the Orthodox Union advocating for government funding in nonpublic schools, is applauding Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for his ongoing investment in STEM educational funding for all New York students. In his 2018 executive budget proposal last week, the Governor identified STEM education as a priority within the New York State curriculum. He also pledged to continue an historic program, which reimburses STEM instructional costs in nonpublic schools, through 2019.

“We appreciate that reimbursement for STEM instruction is part of the governor’s budget plan. We believe this program holds truly transformational promise, since it’s the first real investment in secular education for all kids,” said Teach NYS Executive Director Jake Adler. “In this difficult budgetary climate, it’s especially important to know that our schools are the highest priority. We thank Governor Cuomo for his 2018 budget, and look forward to working with our partners in the state legislature to bring this much-needed funding to our schools.”

The STEM instructional reimbursement program has been a pillar of Teach NYS advocacy campaigns, and was a central theme of last year’s “Mission to Albany,” in which Governor Cuomo was the keynote speaker. STEM instructional reimbursement – and its positive impact on New York state – will be a central theme at this year’s mission, which will see an estimated 1,000 students, teachers, community members and lawmakers gathered together in Albany for a day of advocacy.

“We thank Governor Cuomo for his 2018 budget proposal. We look forward to showing the entire community first-hand how meaningful this program has been for our children,” said Allen I. Fagin, Executive Vice President of the Orthodox Union. “Governor Cuomo has been a longtime ally of our community, and his support for STEM education for all New York school children is deeply appreciated.”
