The conference, a program of the Pepa and Rabbi Joseph Karasick Department of Synagogue Services of the OU, will be an opportunity for two days of networking and professional-development seminars, with the discussions dealing with the challenges and the role of synagogue executive directors.
According to OU Director of Synagogue Services Rabbi Bini Maryles, the conference is “aimed at empowering executive directors and providing them with a host of resources aimed at further enhancing their ability to administer their synagogue.”
The conference will focus on topics including safety and security, communication, time management, administration, marketing and fundraising. Speakers will be announced soon. There will be sessions on: “Communication: Dealing with Rabbi and Board”; “How to Take Your Shul From Good to Great”; “Conflict-Management,” and “Safety and Security.”
OU Executive Vice President Rabbi Tzvi Hersh Weinreb will serve as dinner speaker on the opening day of the conference.
In a letter to executive directors of OU synagogues, Rabbi Maryles wrote: “Synagogues are central to the religious experiences of a community and we know that your role as executive director is essential in ensuring that the shul functions on an optimal level. The conference will provide you with the opportunity to meet your peers, learn from experts, and be at the forefront of discussions regarding the challenges and the role of synagogue executive directors.”
The conference fee is $250 including meals, with an early registration fee of $225 for those signing up by August 29. For further information, contact 212-613-8266 or synagogue@ou.org.
