OU’S ‘REFLECTIONS ON TESHUVA’ ONCE AGAIN HAS RABBIS CHANGING PLACES BEFORE YOM KIPPUR IN NEW YORK AREA; HARRISBURG/ALLENTOWN; DENVER; CHICAGO
Call it “Rabbis Changing Places,” call it “Rabbis on the Road,” call it “Bima to Bima,” or call it simply, “Reflections on Teshuva,” but once again this year, in a program that began in 2005, some of the New York area’s most distinguished pulpit rabbis will exchange places on September 8 (Tzom Gedaliah), the Sunday before Yom Kippur, to provide their “Reflections on Teshuva,” an Orthodox Union High Holy Day program. In many cases, the rabbis will be visiting synagogues in their own or neighboring communities.
For a second year, the program has been extended beyond the New York Metropolitan Area to include Harrisburg and Allentown in Pennsylvania; and Skokie, IL.
The sessions will take place between Mincha and Maariv. Teshuva means “repentance” and is the central theme of the Yamim Nara’im – the Days of Awe — encompassing Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Reflections on Teshuva is a program of the Orthodox Union’s Department of Community Engagement.
“The Reflections on Teshuva program has been expanded to benefit Jewish communities on a national level as a result of an overwhelmingly positive response from congregants and rabbis alike,” noted Hannah Farkas, manager of programs and special projects for OU Community Engagement. “The success of the program and interest and feedback from previous years has enabled this initiative to evolve and now includes more than 25 rabbis in nine communities across North America.” She noted further, “OU and non-OU shuls are participating in this worthwhile initiative.”
