Culminating an Orthodox Union Community Weekend, OU Executive Vice President, Emeritus, Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb will be speaking at the Community Breakfast at Congregation Bais Torah in Suffern, Sunday, December 8 at 9:30 a.m.
The OU member synagogue is located at 89 West Carlton Road. Rabbi Weinreb will be addressing the topic “Are We all Fanatics?”
“Religiously devout people are sometimes labeled ‘fanatics,’” said Rabbi Weinreb. “In this lecture I intend to carefully define fanaticism and distinguish it from religious devotion. In the process, I will examine some disturbing trends in our society, and further distinguish between behaviors which are extreme but yet within bounds, versus those which are excessive and therefore unacceptable.”
As part of the Community Weekend, Bais Torah will also be presenting the Harry H. Beren ASK OU Kashrus OUTREACH Program “Special Community Kashrus Event” on Motza’ei Shabbat December 7 beginning at 8:30 p.m. Rabbi Yosef Grossman, Senior Educational Rabbinic Coordinator and OU Director of Kosher Education coordinated the program and will serve as MC. The program is sponsored by the Harry H. Beren Foundation of New Jersey.
Rabbi Moshe Elefant, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Rabbinic Coordinator of OU Kosher, will speak on “The Integrity of Kosher Meat after the Recent Meat Scandals.” He will be followed an hour later by Rabbi Nachum Rabinowitz, Senior Rabbinic Coordinator of OU Kosher, on “The Production of Kosher Wine and Liquor – A Power point Presentation.”
