Orthodox Union Executive Vice President Rabbi Steven Weil will be leading an OU Community Weekend at the Young Israel of West Hempstead from Friday, December 20-Saturday, December 21 (Shabbat Parshat Shemot).
The OU member synagogue is located on 630 Hempstead Avenue.
Rabbi Weil will be speaking at the Friday night Oneg Shabbat on the topic “After the Pew.” On Shabbat morning he will be giving a shiur on the Parsha “Anatomy of the World’s First BDS Movement” as well delivering a sermon on “Don’t Jew Me.” In the afternoon before Mincha he will be delivering his presentation on “Nurture, Nature and Destiny: What Ingredients Produced The World’s Most Perfected Human Being.” Between Mincha and Maariv Rabbi Weil will be discussing “Men Are From Mars, Women From Venus: A Look at The State of Marriage in the Orthodox Community.”
Says Rabbi Dovid Kupchik, Chairman of the Young Israel of West Hempstead’s Adult Education Committee, “There is already a buzz in the streets of West Hempstead in anticipation of Rabbi Weil’s visit for Shabbat Parshat Shemot. The Young Israel community feels honored to have a rabbinic leader of his caliber from the OU who has contacts with Jewish communities around the world and who grapples with current issues facing Jews in America and beyond. The community is looking forward to his lectures and Shabbat morning sermon.”
