OU COMMUNITY SERVICES AND LANDER COLLEGES PRESENT “EATING DISORDERS AMONG OUR YOUNG PEOPLE,” SUNDAY JANUARY 29 AT WOODMERE’S CONGREGATION AISH KODESH
The Orthodox Union Department of Community Services | Jewish Community Programs will present a community forum on “Eating Disorders Among Our Young People,” Sunday, January 29. The event, in cooperation with Lander College for Men, in Queens; Lander College for Women/The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School, in Manhattan; and Congregation Aish Kodesh in Woodmere, will take place at the synagogue, 894 Woodmere Place. The free program will begin at 8:00 p.m. and is open to both men and women.
The evening will feature renowned speaker and best-selling author Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser; a panel of top Orthodox mental health professionals; and a question and answer session.
Rabbi Goldwasser is Rav of Brooklyn’s Khal Bnei Yitzchok. As a veteran and expert in education, Rabbi Goldwasser is consulted regularly. His keen insight, as well as his caring and concern, have enabled him to offer guidance and support to countless individuals, couples, and families who have sought his counsel. Additionally, Rabbi Goldwasser is a full time member of the faculty at the Lander College for Women of Touro College, and is a daily radio commentator on JM in the AM, and the Nachum Segal Show. He is a syndicated columnist whose weekly article appears in The Jewish Press, and is a featured columnist of Hamodia.
Panel members will include:
• Dr. Ditza Berger — Professor of Psychology at Lander College for Women; Director of Guidance and Counseling at Camp Sternberg; and a psychologist in private practice in Lawrence;
• Dr. Alan Perry – Chair of the Department of Psychology at Lander College for Men; in practice at King’s County Hospital Center Forensic Psychiatry Unit; and former Deputy Director of Mental Health Services at Rikers Island, with a focus on eating disorders;
• Rabbi Jonathan Morgenstern — Spiritual leader of the Young Israel of Scarsdale; holds a Masters Degree in Addiction Counseling, in addition to rabbinic ordination from Beis Medrash L’Torah/Lander College for Men.
