OU’s Stephen Savitsky to Visit 3 Ottawa Synagogues, Shabbat Weekend 10/19-21

12 Oct 2012

STEPHEN SAVITSKY, OU CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD, TO SPEAK AT THREE OTTAWA SYNAGOGUES, SHABBAT WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 19-21

Stephen J. Savitsky, Orthodox Union Chairman of the Board and a three-time President of the organization before assuming his current title, will visit three Ottawa congregations, the Shabbat weekend of Friday, October 19-Sunday, October 21, in a program sponsored by the Orthodox Union Department of Community Engagement.

The participating synagogues are Machzikei Hadas Congregation, 2310 Virginia Drive; Congregation Beit Tikvah of Ottawa, 15 Chartwell Avenue; and Young Israel of Ottawa, 627 Kirkwood Avenue.

Both as President and Chairman of the Board, Mr. Savitsky has traveled widely throughout North America bringing the OU’s message of devotion to Israel; strengthening the Jewish family; making synagogues welcoming places; and promoting unity in the Orthodox world. Those will be the themes of his Ottawa presentations.

“The Ottawa Jewish Community looks forward to welcoming and learning from Stephen Savitsky,” said Bram Bregman, Executive Director, NCSY Ottawa, who played a major role in organizing the program. “All three OU-affiliated synagogues in Ottawa have joined forces to hear Mr. Savitsky share his insights and perspectives on the current Jewish world based on his years of leadership experience. This will be an exciting and inspiring weekend for the Jewish community of Canada’s capital city.”

On Friday night, he will speak at Machzikei Hadas at Shabbat Dinner at 6:45 following Kabbat Shabbat at 6:00 p.m. His topic will be “Israel Through the Eyes of One Prime Minister, One King, 15 Generals, 40 Members of Knesset and a Few Taxi Drivers.” The cost is $30 per adult and $20 per child, ages 6-15.

Saturday morning will find Mr. Savitsky again at Machzikei Hadas, where he will speak at Shabbat luncheon beginning at 11:30 on “Major Issues that Face the Jewish Family in the 21st Century, with Possible Solutions.” The cost is $25 per adult and $15 per child (with free babysitting). There is a charge of $50 per adult for both meals.

Mr. Savitsky will move to Beit Tikvah after Shabbat for “Let’s Make Our Shul a Happening Place,” at 8:30 p.m. There will be complimentary light refreshments.

On Sunday morning, at Young Israel, Mr. Savitsky will address the topic of “Fostering Unity in the Orthodox World.” He will speak at a complimentary breakfast at 8:45 a.m. following morning services at 8:00 a.m.
