OU’S RABBI STEVEN WEIL ONCE AGAIN TO LEAD EXPLANATORY SERVICES FOR HIGH HOLY DAYS AT CONGREGATION KETER TORAH IN TEANECK; DIRECTED AT NEWCOMERS AND VETERANS IN SYNAGOGUE LIFE
Rabbi Steven Weil, Executive Vice President of the Orthodox Union, will once again lead a unique explanatory service on the High Holy Days at Congregation Keter Torah in Teaneck, NJ. Titled the “I Wish I Understood Everything I Was Saying” Minyan, it will take place beginning at 7:45 a.m. on each day of Rosh Hashana, and beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Yom Kippur. Shofar blowing will take place on both days of Rosh Hashanah at approximately 10:45 a.m.
The OU is co-sponsor of the program.
Participants are welcome to attend for all or just part of the services. The program is now in its third year at Keter Torah.
The service, designed for both experienced synagogue attendees and newcomers, was created by Rabbi Weil while he served as Senior Rabbi of Congregation Beth Jacob in Beverly Hills, prior to his position at the OU, based on ideas developed with L.A.-based writer and congregant Michael Borkow. According to Rabbi Weil, “The goal of the service is to provide both beginners, as well as those with a significant background, with an understanding of the specific prayers, the overall structure, and the themes of the prayerbook.”
No Hebrew or knowledge of the prayers is necessary.
“We are very excited to have Rabbi Weil lead this service again,” said Rabbi Shalom Baum, Rav of Congregation Keter Torah. “Rabbi Weil has a unique ability to relate the prayer service to contemporary issues in society. He remains committed to the traditional and sacred liturgy while simultaneously zeroing in on the most relevant challenges confronting modern man.”
Rosh Hashana will take place on Sunday evening, September 16-Tuesday, evening, September 18. Yom Kippur begins at sunset on Tuesday, September 25 and extends for 25 hours through nightfall on Wednesday, September 26.
Participants are required to reserve a seat at the synagogue.
