OU’s Rabbi Kalinsky to Visit San Francisco as Scholar-in-Residence, 7/27-29

RABBI ALAN KALINSKY, DIRECTOR OF OU WEST COAST, TO VISIT SAN FRANCISCO’S CONGREGATION ADATH ISRAEL AS SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE, JULY 27-29

Rabbi Alan Kalinsky, Director of the Orthodox Union West Coast Region, will be Scholar-in-Residence at San Francisco’s Congregation Adath Israel for Shabbat and Tisha B’av, Friday July 27-Sunday, July 29. The OU member synagogue is located at 1851 Noriega Street.

Rabbi Kalinsky will give a Friday night d’var Torah. During Shabbat morning services, he will discuss “Tisha B’Av: From Sadness To Happiness.” His afternoon lecture will address, “Why Do We Still Mourn the Destruction of the Beit Hamikdash?”

Following Ma’ariv serves Saturday night, Rabbi Kalinsky will read Eicha (the book of Lamentations) and lead the learning of Kinnot (elegies). Rabbi Kalinsky will also lead Kinnot and explanations Sunday morning.

Adath Israel President David Kimmel noted, “There a few rabbis with expertise in so many facets of Jewish life. Our shul is very excited to be able to bring such a distinguished scholar to make our Tisha B’av experience more meaningful.”
