ORTHODOX UNION’S DALLAS YACHAD PRESENTS A SHLOCK ROCK CONCERT, MARCH 16, TO RAISE AWARENESS AND BENEFIT YACHAD PROGRAMS IN THE REGION
The Orthodox Union’s Yachad/National Jewish Council for Disabilities announced today that its newly formed Yachad chapter in Dallas will hold a Yachad-Shlock Rock Concert, on Sunday, March 16, to raise awareness about many opportunities available to people with special needs in the Dallas Jewish community and to benefit Yachad programs in the region.
The entire community is invited by the Dallas Yachad chapter to take a part in this special and exciting event. The concert will be held at the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center, 7900 Northaven Road, at 3:30 p.m.
Yachad’s mission is to promote and to facilitate the inclusion of all people with disabilities. Yachad activities provide members with opportunities for personal growth and enriched lives. The “inclusive design” gives the special population their rightful place within the Jewish community, while educating the community at large about Yachad member’s abilities and strengths.
Dallas Yachad is open to children with special needs, including those with moderate to severe disabilities.
“Showing support for individuals with special needs will unite the entire Jewish community. I’m very excited to have started the Yachad chapter here in Dallas, a community that understands the value of every single person,” declared Rabbi Jay Weinstein, Director of Dallas Yachad.
“Many times, children with special needs connect to Judaism through music. It’s great to have Shlock Rock come to Dallas because it is their mission to help Jews connect to Judaism through music,” Rabbi Weinstein explained.
According to Rabbi Mayer Waxman, Assistant National Director of NJCD, “This concert is a fun opportunity to learn about all of the wonderful programs Dallas Yachad offers and an enjoyable way to spend the evening.”
“Shlock Rock is a popular Jewish rock and roll band with longstanding connections to the OU/NCSY. Its mission to encourage Jewish pride, identity and awareness and its ability to express Jewish ideas through popular culture will highlight Yachad’s theme of inclusion,” Rabbi Waxman said.
Shlock Rock has performed over 2,000 shows in the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Israel and England.
Tickets cost $9 for an adult and $6 for a child. Family sponsorship opportunities are available for $118.
