OU to Address “Effects of The Media & The Internet on Your Children’s Morality” 12/22 in Elizabeth

ORTHODOX UNION AND PARTNERS TO ADDRESS “THE EFFECTS OF MEDIA AND THE INTERNET ON YOUR CHILDREN’S MORALITY,” DECEMBER 22 IN ELIZABETH

In its ongoing efforts to strengthen Jewish homes and parenting techniques, the Orthodox Union’s Department of Community Engagement | Jewish Community Programming will present a program in Elizabeth for parents featuring local leading rabbis and Orthodox mental health professionals to address “The Effects of Media and the Internet on Your Children’s Morality,” on Saturday night, December 22. The program will take place from 7:15-10:00 p.m. at the Jewish Educational Center, Bruriah Campus, located at 35 North Avenue. Admission is free and open to everyone.

The evening is hosted in partnership with the Jewish Educational Center, PTA’s, and the Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey. It is made possible under Kesher: The Jewish Family Connection grant which is fully funded by the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest.

Rabbi Judah Isaacs, OU Director of Community Engagement, noted, “The OU parenting program in Elizabeth is part of a series of programs designed to help Orthodox Jewish parents navigate the complexities of parenting in our modern age. This particular program will highlight the challenges of parenting in the Internet age, with experts providing both a halachic and psychological perspective. We encourage parents to join us and learn important skills.”

Rabbi Yakov Horowitz, a noted lecturer on positive child-centered approaches to raising children and teens, will present the Keynote Address. Rabbi Horowitz is a noted author, Director of Project YES, and Dean of Yeshiva Darchei Noam in Monsey.

Workshops by leading Orthodox mental health professionals will also include:

• “The Challenge of Parenting Teenagers Today: How to Reduce Conflict, Improve Communications and Maintain a Healthy Relationship”
Rabbi Avrohom Herman, M.S.W., L.S.W — Rabbi of the Elmora Avenue Synagogue (JEC) in Elizabeth;

• “Communicating with Teens about Technology”
Dr. Akiva Perlman, Ph.D. – Director of Guidance, Rabbi Teitz Mesivta Academy, JEC, and Assistant Professor of Long Island University’s School of Social Work;

• “Myspace not Facebook: Creating a Strong Home Environment”
Rabbi Ariel Schochet, LAC, MS – Associate Administrator, Yeshiva of Elizabeth, JEC;

• “Coping Skills for the Anxious Child”
Dr. Tzipporah Wallach, Psy.D. – Director of Counseling and Guidance Services, Bruriah High School, JEC
