28 Oct 2010

OU KOSHER’S POLICY AND HALACHIC LEADERSHIP TO HEAD PROGRAM AS ASK OU COMES TO THE WHITE SHUL IN FAR ROCKAWAY, NOVEMBER 21;
FIRST TIME OU KOSHER LEADERSHIP HAVE ALL APPEARED IN SAME SESSION

OU Kosher is sending a veritable kashrut All-Star team to Far Rockaway and the Five Towns when it presents a shiur featuring Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of OU Kosher; Rabbi Moshe Elefant, COO of OU Kosher and Executive Rabbinic Coordinator; and the two OU Kosher poskim, Rav Yisroel Belsky and Rav Hershel Schachter at Congregation Kneseth Israel, the White Shul, on Sunday November 21 from 7:30-10.00 p.m. It will be the first time all four rabbonim have appeared on the same program.

The Far Rockaway program is part of the Harry H. Beren Ask OU Outreach initiative, which is sponsored by the Harry H. Beren Foundation of Lakewood, NJ.
“We are extremely pleased to offer the Far Rockaway and FiveTowns community a major kashrut seminar,” declared OU President Stephen J. Savitsky, himself a resident of the Five Towns. “The OU standards of kashrut are the halachic framework of the local va’ad and are the most respected standards in the kosher world.”

Admission is free. There will be a separate ladies section for all sessions. Those who attend will receive a free “HOW TO Kasher” DVD with various sessions on kashering (kosherization) presented by the OU’s expert Rabbi Moshe Perlmutter, which were video recorded at previous ASK OU shiurim.

Also featured in the shiur, audience favorites whenever they speak at OU Kosher programs, will be Rabbi Chaim Loike, OU Rabbinic Coordinator and an expert on birds and eggs, who always travels to shiurim with his feathered friends; and Rabbi Avrohom Stone, Senior Rabbinic Field Representative, whose unique speaking (and writing style) is vastly entertaining while he clarifies fine points of halacha.

In a session called “Ask the OU Rabbonim,” Rabbis Genack and Elefant and Rav Belsky and Rav Schachter will answer questions on halacha and OU policy. Priority will be given to questions sent by fax to 212-613-0621 or emailed to Grossman@ou.org.

In a session sponsored by Menachem Eliyad Korn, Rabbi Loike will speak on “The Mesorah of Kosher Birds: How the OU Established the Mesorah of Kosher Partridge in America.” Rabbi Stone will give his unique insights into “The Complexity of the Simple Product: What Could Be Wrong With…?”

“It is with great pride that ASK OU presents the major poskim and establishers of OU policy in the person of Rav Yisroel Belsky, Rav Hershel Schachter, Rabbi Menachem Genack and Rabbi Moshe Elefant together for the first time in our ASK the Rabbonim session,” declared Rabbi Yosef Grossman, Director of OU Kosher Education.

“A live demonstration of birds and a discussion of the Mesorah of Kosher Birds by our bird expert Rabbi Chaim Loike, as well as a fascinating presentation on The Complexity of the Simple Product by our Senior Rabbinic Field Representative Rabbi Avrohom Stone, round out what is sure to be an extraordinary evening of kosher education for the residents of Far Rockaway and the Five Towns. We are extremely pleased to partner with the White Shul in this event.”
