OU KOSHER EXPERT TO SPEAK AT FOOD LABELING SEMINAR, SPONSORED BY THE FOOD INSTITUTE, JUNE 5

OU Kosher will be a featured presenter at an important Food Labeling Seminar in to be sponsored by The Food Institute in June. The seminar attracts more than 200 food manufacturers, who attend to learn about specific labeling and legislative issues in the industry.

The Orthodox Union will be represented by Rabbi Eliyahu Safran, Senior Rabbinic Coordinator and Vice President, Communications and Marketing of the worldwide OU Kosher Division.

The seminar will be held on Tuesday, June 5 at the Doubletree, Newark Airport in New Jersey, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The American Institute of Food Distribution, known as the Food Institute, is a non-profit organization founded in 1928 to provide information to the industry. According to the Institute, “The seminar will keep you abreast of the latest developments impacting the labeling of food products as well as provide an overview of the basics of food labeling.” The Institute notes that “several important changes in food labeling became effective in 2006 and more are on the way. Learn what may be coming down the pike that could affect your products.”

According to Rabbi Safran, “The Orthodox Union requires that any placement of the OU symbol on products be authorized in writing, with specification to the label company, brand and product name as it appears on the label.”

Rabbi Safran will address areas of concern regarding potential mislabelings and how to run an “Error Free” kosher program, as well as give a general overview of the advantage of OU certification.
