OU KOSHER ANNOUNCES HARRY H. BEREN VISIT OU PROGRAM FOR JEWISH YOUTH

As another in an expanding series of education initiatives, the Orthodox Union’s Kosher Department has established its new Harry H. Beren Visit OU program, which makes it possible for Jewish students to visit the OU to learn the finer points of kosher law and observance. The program was inaugurated last week when 70 students from Seattle and Vancouver visited New York on a trip sponsored by the OU’s Jewish Student Union, which operates clubs for public school students across North America.

As part of their learning experience the students watched a twenty-minute video explaining the basics of OU kosher certification. They also received informative presentations from Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of OU Kosher, and Rabbi Yosef Grossman, Director of ASK OU and Kashrut Education at OU Kosher.

The new initiative Visit OU is a companion to the highly successful ASK OU program. Both programs are made possible by the Harry H. Beren Foundation of Lakewood, NJ, which provides financial support to a wide variety of educational programs of OU Kosher.

“Students from public high schools — as in the case of JSU clubs — as well as day schools, yeshiva high schools and summer camps, can benefit from visiting the OU,” declared Rabbi Grossman. “Every visit to the OU is unique, as we cater to the specific needs of each group. Our rabbinic personnel researches the questions students send in prior to their visit, and explain the technicalities of kosher in a user-friendly manner.”
