OU HOSTS SEMINAR IN NEW JERSEY BY MAUREEN DOWLING, DIRECTOR OF U.S. OFFICE OF NON-PUBLIC EDUCATION

On May 30, Maureen Dowling, Director of the United States Department of Education Office of Non-Public Education (ONPE), presented a seminar at Congregation Rinat Yisrael in Teaneck to New Jersey Jewish schools.

“Maureen came from Washington to New Jersey to explain the process of how ESEA (title funding programs) works, how the school districts need to work together with the day schools in a meaningful way, and how the Day Schools need to be more involved in the process,” said Josh Pruzansky, OU New Jersey Director of Political Affairs and Public Policy. “It was a great presentation, and many schools walked away with new knowledge of the process, and how they can make a difference.”

This was the first seminar that the OU hosted with ONPE, and Maureen Dowling said she looks forward to future events together with the Orthodox Union.

OU Executive Director for Public Policy Nathan Diament said: “We have worked very productively with the U.S. Department of Education and Director Dowling in particular, to shape federal education programs in ways which are beneficial to Jewish day school students. We deeply appreciate her coming into the field to present these resources to our school leaders.”
