OU Congratulates The Pennsylvania Senate On Increasing Educational Choice

28 Oct 2011

The Pennsylvania Senate passed SB1 on October 26, which increased school choice and educational opportunities. The bill, which will move to the House as early as next week, gives families with children in the lowest performing schools the opportunity to choose better schools and provides additional tax incentives for businesses to contribute their profits towards scholarship organizations (Educational Improvement Tax Credit). This funding will support middle and low income parents with support to pay for alternative educational opportunities, such as tutoring or even day school tuition.

The Orthodox Union Institute for Public Affairs is very supportive and involved in this worthy endeavor towards increased educational opportunities. In August, the IPA testified in a Senate Hearing in support of SB1, and continues to encourage the House to pass the bill with the bipartisan support in which it was passed in the Senate.

Nathan J. Diament, OU Director of Public Policy stated: “We are very pleased that the Pennsylvania Legislature is moving ahead to empower parents and give them more resources to directly ensure their children receive the quality education of their choice. The OU is committed to these and similar initiatives for the benefit of parents within our community and beyond.”
