ORTHODOX UNION AND PARTNERS PRESENT FREE COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIR — DIABETES AWARENESS DAY,
SUNDAY, JUNE 3 IN BROOKLYN
With diabetes becoming more and more prevalent, affecting children and adults alike and totaling, according to the American Diabetes Association, 14.6 million diagnosed Americans, and 6.2 million who are unaware, the Orthodox Union in conjunction with the Sephardic Community Center, Shaarei Tzion Congregation, Vaad HaRabbonim of Flatbush, and the Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center will present Free Community Health Fair — Diabetes Awareness Day, to provide free screening and education to the public about diabetes.
The health fair will be held at the Sephardic Community Center, 1901 Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn, on Sunday, June 3, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It will feature medical experts from Kingsbrook.
“The Orthodox Union is concerned about the entire Jewish community — its mind, body, and soul,” declared Frank Buchweitz, National Director of Community Services and Special Projects. “There are so many people who are not aware that they have diabetes, which can affect their life and health, without them even knowing. This is not to mention the adverse impact on their family if anything happens to a family member.”
“The OU has taken the lead with respect to practical issues that concern the daily lives of people. Everyone should take advantage of this great opportunity to meet with leading medical practitioners for a consultation or to increase their knowledge,” he said.
In addition to the educational workshops and free screenings, there will also be free giveaways and door prizes.
Free screenings will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and from 1:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. These include Blood Sugar Screening with Dr. Stanley Newhouse and Rebecca Rawls, RN, CNM; Blood Pressure Screening with Dr. Thomas Fuchs and Dr. Goldie Naparstek-Schwartzbard; Vision Tests with Dr. Arthur Wolintz and Dr. Miriam Fuhrman; and Medication Consultation with Dr. Bishoy Luka and Dr. Catherine Millares.

• Warning Signs of Stroke, with Dr. Goldie Naparstek-Schwartzbard and Dr. Thomas Fuchs; and,
• Juvenile Diabetes.
