Nj yachad To Present Special Parent Workshop on Sexuality in Teaneck, 11/17

29 Oct 2008

Yachad/the National Jewish Council for Disabilities (NJCD) is an agency of the Orthodox Union that provides educational and social inclusion programs for children and adults with learning and developmental disabilities. Yachad is holding the workshop in collaboration with the Sinai Schools, the only Jewish day school specifically for children with special needs that has received the coveted accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The speaker will be Mary Greenfield, of Long Island, who works as a Sexuality Training Specialist for adults and children with learning and developmental disabilities. She has a MA in teaching from Northwestern University and is a certified sexuality educator with the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.

Chani Herrman, Director of NJ Yachad, declared, “We work with many families who struggle with teaching their children about sexuality, and this important workshop is certainly a good venue for airing concerns and discussing this issue. Mary Greenfield is a top professional in this field and has a great deal of useful information for parents. Unfortunately, individuals with special needs are at a high risk of being abused and we want to empower parents to gain as much information as possible in the hopes of preventing any kind of abuse.”
