15 Feb 2013

SEATTLE’S RABBI DAVID TWERSKY, TO BE INDUCTED INTO NCSY’S ALUMNI HONOR SOCIETY, TO BE HONORED AT DESSERT RECEPTION ON FEBRUARY 26; RABBI FRAND, SEATTLE NATIVE AND NOTED LECTURER, TO BE GUEST SPEAKER

Rabbi David Twersky

The highest honor that NCSY | Jewish Youth Leadership, the international youth arm of the Orthodox Union, can bestow is induction into its Ben Zakkai Honor Society (BZHS). Therefore it is most appropriate that Rabbi David Twersky of Seattle, who will be inducted into BZHS on March 10 in New York, will be the honored by the Seattle Jewish community at a free dessert reception at the home of Bayla and Louis Treiger on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m.

BZHS is an alumni “Hall of Fame” whose new members are nominated by, and voted on, by its current members based on the nominees’ service to NCSY and the Jewish community. The Society’s main function is to raise funds for scholarships for high school NCSYers for summer programs in North America and Israel and for teens to continue their Jewish education after high school.

In a rare double tribute, Rabbi Twersky will also be the recipient of the Enid and Harold Boxer Memorial Award at the Ben Zakkai dinner. The award is presented annually to a distinguished NCSY alumnus. Harold Boxer was instrumental in the founding of NCSY in 1954 while his wife Enid was recipient of the award in 1998.

Rabbi Twersky, a Yeshiva University graduate who works as a systems analyst at Boeing, comes from a family whose roots in Seattle go back more than a century. As a high school student he was an NCSY vice president. He and his wife, Tzippy, will be making aliyah shortly to join some of their children already in Israel. Rabbi Twersky is also a Trustee of the Samis Foundation, which is based in Seattle and supports Jewish education and culture.

Rabbi Yissocher Frand, a childhood friend of Rabbi Twersky, will be the special guest speaker at the Seattle reception, which is hosted by Bayla and Louis Treiger and by Karen Treiger and Shlomo Goldberg. Rabbi Frand, a Seattle native, is senior lecturer at the Ner Yisroel Yeshiva in Baltimore. Known as a dynamic orator, his sermons have a worldwide audience on the web and he is in constant demand as a speaker.
