NCSY EXPANDS ITS AUDIENCE TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR SYNAGOGUE YOUTH DIRECTORS

The Orthodox Union’s National Conference of Synagogue Youth, which provides intensive training for its directors and advisors from across North America, will reach out to synagogue youth directors from near and far when it presents its first-time ever National Leadership Training for Youth Directors.

The seminar is a joint program of the OU’s Department of Community Services and NCSY. It will be held Sunday, September 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Park East Synagogue, 164 E. 68th St. (between Lexington and Third Avenues).

“NCSY, a leader in informal Jewish education for teenagers, decided to hold the seminar so that similar education can be strengthened in synagogues across the country through their youth programs. This conference will inspire youth directors to provide cutting-edge programming during the school year and to enrich their current offerings,” declared Rabbi Steven Burg, National Director of NCSY.

The conference will include workshops on how to reach out to all youth in the synagogue and the community; how to market the synagogue’s youth department; and how to work with the synagogue’s board, rabbi and parents. It will provide networking opportunities with youth directors from across the country, discussions on issues confronting youth directors, and new program ideas for elementary, pre-teens and teens.

“The Orthodox Union is pleased to share the expertise of NCSY and of the Department of Community Services with synagogue youth directors. We are all working for the same goals — to keep our young people Jewish, to educate them about the richness of our heritage and the beauties of a Torah lifestyle. That is why we’re holding this first-time ever event,” stated Stephen J. Savitsky, OU President.

The following NCSY professionals will share their expertise and years of experience:

• Rabbi Steven Burg, National Director of NCSY;

• Avi Frier, former Youth Director, Young Israel of Hollywood, FL. He currently serves as editor and publisher of The Florida Jewish News;

• David Cutler, Youth Director, Young Israel of Staten Island and Director of Summer Programs and Finances of NCSY;

• Rabbi Yaakov Glasser, Regional Director, New Jersey NCSY and Rabbi, Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton; and

• Rabbi Tully Bryks, Regional Director, South Florida NCSY.

The fee for the conference is $25 if paid by Tuesday, August 29 and $35 from August 30 until Tuesday, September 5. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
