Mira and David Zeffren of Los Angeles will serve as co-chairs of the Orthodox Union Biennial National Convention, to be held in Jerusalem Thanksgiving weekend, November 22-26. The Convention returns to Jerusalem, where it attracted a capacity attendance of more than 1,000 in 2004.
“The Orthodox Union’s Biennial National Convention is a great opportunity to foster achdut (unity) between American and Israeli Jews in a unique setting,” Mr. and Mrs. Zeffren declared. “We accepted this role as co-chairs to help acquaint OU members with the Gedolei Eretz Yisrael (the Torah Giants of Israel). We anticipate that this interaction will enhance communication across the great distances and educate us on where the OU can and should focus its resources to make a difference.”
Besides the Zeffrens, Convention chairs include Linda and Dr. Michael Elman of Baltimore, Hedy and Terrence Augenbraun of Fairfield, CT, and Yitzchak and Debbie Fund of Jerusalem. Mr. Fund is Chair of the Seymour J. Abrams OU Jerusalem World Center Commission.
The Convention program, now in preparation, will include an impressive array of government and rabbinical leaders, Torah study sessions, and pre-and post-Convention tours and programs, in addition to a new resolutions process in which delegates from OU synagogues throughout North America will have a greater role than ever before in setting the OU agenda and policies for the next two years.
