The Orthodox Union is now accepting donations in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies through a partnership with Crypto for Charity, a new option that provides additional tax breaks for donors.
Contributions made through Crypto for Charity will immediately be sold and the proceeds transferred to the OU. These donations of appreciated cryptocurrency don’t trigger capital gains tax and may be tax deductible for their full amount.
Orthodox Union President Moishe Bane commented, “In the digital age, cryptocurrencies have an ever-increasing presence. We hope the OU’s supporters will take advantage of this new option to support our vital programs across the Jewish community.”
Added Maury Litwack, the OU’s Managing Director for Public Affairs, “The OU has thousands of generous donors around the world, and we’re excited to give them yet another way to contribute.”
Here is how you can donate:
1. Go to cryptoforcharity.io.
2. Pick Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America from the list.
3. Donate crypto and get a tax receipt.*
*Please note, tax receipts will be issued by Crypto for Charity, not the Orthodox Union.
