Linda and Michael Elman of Baltimore to Serve as Convention Co-Chairs

19 Jun 2006

Linda and Dr. Michael Elman of Baltimore will serve as co-chairs of the Orthodox Union Biennial National Convention, to be held in Jerusalem Thanksgiving weekend, November 22-26. The Convention returns to Jerusalem, where it attracted a capacity attendance of more than 1,000 in 2004.

“We are excited to serve as co-chairpersons for the Convention,” declared Dr. and Mrs. Elman. “We hope that the Convention will inspire and energize our friends who attend with the beauty and vitality of Judaism in Israel, thereby deepening their commitment to Torat Yisrael, Am Yisrael, and Eretz Yisrael (the Torah of Israel, the People of Israel, the Land of Israel).”

“We believe that the Orthodox Union is uniquely qualified to accomplish this, as it serves as the central address for the welfare, growth and concerns of Torah observant Jews worldwide.”

Mrs. Elman is specifically in charge of the pre-Convention tours, which will be available to those who arrive earlier in the week.
Besides the Elmans, Convention chairs include Mira and David Zeffren of Los Angeles, Hedy and Terrence Augenbraun of Fairfield, CT, and Yitzchak and Debbie Fund of Jerusalem. Mr. Fund is Chair of the Seymour J. Abrams OU Jerusalem World Center Commission.

The Convention program, now in preparation, will include an impressive array of government and rabbinical leaders, Torah study sessions, and pre-and post-Convention tours and programs, in addition to a new resolutions process in which delegates from OU synagogues throughout North America will have a greater role than ever before in setting the OU agenda and policies for the next two years.
