ASK OU to Present Programs in Syrian Community and Boro Park, 3/27 and 4/6

ASK OU KASHRUT REACHES OUT TO NEW COMMUNITIES; SHIURIM IN SYRIAN JEWISH COMMUNITY AND BORO PARK — MARCH 27 AND APRIL 6, IN BROOKLYN

The Orthodox Union will present its popular Harry H. Beren program, ASK OU, bringing a delegation of its highest-level policy makers from OU Kosher to Brooklyn by holding a series of shiurim on Sunday, March 27, from 9 a.m.-noon in the Syrian Jewish community; and Wednesday, April 6 from 7:30 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. in Boro Park. Admission is free for both sessions.

Among the experts will be Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of OU Kosher; OU Posek Rav Yisroel Belsky; OU Posek Rav Hershel Schachter; and Rabbi Moshe Elefant, Chief Operating Officer of OU Kosher. Also featured, in separate events, will be Senior Rabbinic Coordinator and wine expert Rabbi Nachum Rabinowitz; Mr. Philip Herzog, President of Royal Wine (Kedem) and OU Rabbinic Coordinator and fish expert Rabbi Chaim Goldberg.

As with all ASK OU programs, the event is sponsored by the Harry H. Beren Foundation of Lakewood. NJ. Other successful Harry H. Beren ASK OU educational programs have taken place in many communities throughout the country such as Lakewood, Monsey, Passaic, Los Angeles, Flatbush, Queens, Far Rockaway/Five Towns and New Haven.

According to Rabbi Yosef Grossman, Director of OU Kosher Education, “We look forward with much excitement to the Harry H. Beren ASK OU program reaching out to more and more new communities where we have never been before. In the immediate future we plan to visit for the first time the Syrian Jewish community of Brooklyn as well as a return to the Heimishe community of Boro Park. We are most gratified with the warm response we have already received in these communities. “

On Sunday, March 27, ASK OU will present a program for men and women at Bnei Shaari Zion, in the heart of the Syrian Jewish community, 2030 Ocean Parkway. Rav Schachter will give a shiur on “Pesach and Kitniyos” at 9:45 a.m., following Rabbi Goldberg’s opening session at 9:00 a.m. on “Current Issues in the Kashrut of Fish.” Rav Belsky will discuss “Bais Yosef Shechita” beginning at 10:15 a.m. Answering questions on halacha and OU policy at 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 noon will be Rav Belsky; Rav Schachter; Rabbi Genack; and Rabbi Elefant.

Leadership from the OU Kashrus Department will address “Wine and Passover Issues” in Boro Park on Wednesday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Agudas Yisroel Zichron Moshe, located at 1561 50th Street. Due to limited seating, this event is for men only.

The evening’s event will feature “OU Wine and Grape Juice,” by Rabbi Rabinowitz at 7:30 p.m.; followed by Mr. Herzog, who will discuss “Kedem Wine and Grape Juice” at 8:00 p.m.; and a panel of “Ask the OU Rabbonim” who will be answering questions on halacha and OU policy at 8:30 p.m. The panel will include Rav Belsky; Rabbi Genack; and Rabbi Elefant.
