Be Prepared: Recommendations for Active Shooter Incidents (RASI)

The presentation focuses on

  • Common active shooter statistics
  • Best practices regarding organization / civilian occupant security
  • Civilian response options of avoid, barricade, confront

Presented by:  Sgt. John Schoppmann, NYPD SHIELD “Countering Terrorism through Information-Sharing” Counterterrorism Division – New York City Police Department

Sgt. John Schoppmann is a 20-year veteran of the NYPD with prior experience in fire service, emergency medical services, and mental health/ peer support. He has been a supervisor since 2007 and assigned to the NYPD Counterterrorism Division since 2010. His first decade in the Division was within the training section, supervising and presenting a myriad of terrorism-related topics. He currently serves as a supervisor in NYPD Shield, a public-private sector partnership (P3), which collaborates with various heads of security around NYC and with law enforcement entities around the globe. His greatest accomplishments are his beautiful children, Jason who is 8, and Francesca, who is 6 years old.
