Presented by: Yael Zelinger, Disability and Inclusion Associate, Coordinator of JADE: Jewish Advocates for Deaf Education, Education Associate, and Martha Goodman.

About Yael:
Yael earned her  Master of Arts in Deaf Education/Special Education from McDaniel College. She has worked at the Macks Center for Jewish Education in Baltimore since 1999, advocating for people with special needs and specifically people with hearing loss. She proudly manages the CJE’s Access Grant that helps pay for interpreters and captions for Jewish community events and videos. She also runs regular ASL Meet Ups for people who sign, to get together and shmooze around a Jewish theme, teaches American Sign Language in Bais Yakov HS, and advocates and educates the Jewish community on how to accommodate people with hearing loss through workshops like this.

About Martha:

Martha has been with Baltimore’s Center for Jewish Education since 2005, working with over 150 families each year, as they navigate the special education system. In addition, she helped to build the Baltimore Jewish Abilities Alliance database, and can connect patrons to hundreds of resources, as needed. She has developed expertise in captioning, making CJE programming more accessible. Martha is a member of the Special Education State Advisory Committee.  She and he daughter Meira have been spokespeople for Maryland Relay, which enables people who are deaf or hard of hearing to communicate with a person who can hear in a manner that is “functionally equivalent” to the ability of an individual without a disability to communicate by telephone.
