YACHAD ANNOUNCES NEW SUMMER 2011 FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS; GIVES HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN WORKING WITH SPECIAL NEEDS YOUNG PEOPLE; APPLICATIONS DUE JANUARY 15.
Yachad/The National Jewish Council for Disabilities (NJCD) announces a brand new summer fellowship program for Summer 2011. The Yachad Morris Sandelbaum High School Fellowship Program, for select high school students nation-wide who have completed Grade 11, is an intensive hands-on four-week program to work as a junior counselor at a selected summer camp within the larger framework of the Yachad camp program.
Applications will be accepted from students across the country and are due by January 15, 2011. Space is limited. Application forms can be found on the Yachad/NJCD website www.njcd.org.
Yachad, the flagship program of the Orthodox Union’s National Jewish Council for Disabilities (NJCD), provides unique social, educational and recreational programs for individuals with learning, developmental and physical disabilities.
The application process for the fellowship will include a personal interview, an essay, a letter of recommendation, participation in a Yachad Shabbaton before the summer and a $500 application fee which will be returned at the end of the summer upon successful completion of the program.
“A summer fellow should be a student who shows a genuine interest in working in the field of special needs, and who demonstrates the desire to gain new experience and learn critical skills. We are hoping this will be a way that our students can transition smoothly and effectively into being a full Yachad staff member,” said Dr. Joe Goldfarb, Director of Yachad Summer and National Programs.
