Yachad to Participate in Generosity Series 5k Walk/Run, Sunday, November 9 in NYC

31 Oct 2014

Have you ever dreamed of running in a marathon but just never had the time or energy to commit to huffing and puffing for 26.2 miles? Don’t sweat it! Participate instead in a short and rewarding exercise of a mere 3.1 miles as Yachad, the Orthodox Union’s National Jewish Council for Disabilities (NJCD), walks and runs in the Generosity Series 5K Charity Walk/Run on Sunday morning, November 9 at 9 a.m. in Riverside Park in Manhattan. The 5K walk/run is open to registration to participants of all ages and levels of abilities. Registration closes Wednesday, November 5.

The Generosity Series is an organization that arranges multi-charity 5K running events nationwide to provide charities a fundraising platform for their participants.

Yachad provides unique social, educational and recreational programs for individuals with learning, developmental and physical disabilities with the goal of their Inclusion in the total life of the Jewish community.

OU Executive Vice President Allen Fagin declared, “I am excited that Yachad will be participating in Generosity’s 5K run/walk. Yachad’s goal of Inclusion is to bring everyone together. It is my great pleasure to invite and encourage all individuals to support and participate in this exciting opportunity.”

“A 5K is only 3.1 miles,” he continued. “So even participating at a normal walking pace should take no more than an hour or so. Children of all ages can participate and even strollers are allowed on the course. The fundraising goal for this run is $200 per participant. This event is a great way for families and individuals to get a taste of Team Yachad.”

Yachad’s International Director Dr. Jeffrey Lichtman remarked, “We are thrilled to finally be able to do a Team Yachad event that anyone and everyone can do regardless of fitness level and fundraising ability. This event is more about raising awareness and letting people have a good time at the same time as raising money for our very important cause. Particularly for young children in elementary school or middle school, this is a great opportunity for them to understand the value of helping to raise money for charity.”
