RABBI STEVEN AND MRS. YAEL WEIL TO SERVE AS OU SCHOLARS-IN-RESIDENCE IN SEATTLE, SHABBAT OF JULY 2
Orthodox Union Executive Vice President Rabbi Steven Weil and Mrs. Yael Weil will serve as Scholars-in-Residence when they visit two OU synagogues and a private home in Seattle the Shabbat of July 2, Parshat Chukat. The synagogues are Bikur Cholim Machzikay Hadath and Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation.
Rabbi Weil will deliver the Shabbat morning sermon at Bikur Cholim Machzikay Hadath on “The Nature of the Haftorah.” He will speak at lunch on “The Real Story Behind Jephte’s Daughter.” At the third Shabbat meal he will speak at Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation on “The Ethical Relevance of Pirkei Avot.”
Mrs. Weil will address the topic “All You Need Is Love: An Analysis of Birkat Kohanim,” at a Sisterhood event at a member’s home at 4:30 pm.
“As a Torah-loving community, it is always a pleasure to hear words of Torah from guests visiting from outside our community,” declared Dan Birk, Vice President and Scholar-in-Residence Coordinator at BCMH, and a former student of Rabbi Weil. “Rabbi Weil brings an amazing insight and presents those ideas in a manner that keeps you hooked. His previous visits to our community have always been well-received and full of words of praise.
“Bikur Cholim Machzikay Hadath will be joining our neighboring congregation, Sephardic Bikur Cholim, for a community Shalosh Seuda to welcome and enjoy Rabbi Weil’s words of Torah together in unity. As a first for this community, we will also have the privilege of hearing Mrs. Weil share words of Torah as she speaks at a Sisterhood event.”
