In conjunction with the publication on November 1 by OU Press and Sterling Press of Out of the Depths: The Story of a Child of Buchenwald Who Returned Home at Last by Rabbi Meir Lau, Israel’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi from 1993 to 2003 and currently Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, the 92nd Street Y will present Rabbi Lau in conversation with Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of OU Kosher and General Editor of OU Press. The session will be held on Wednesday, November 2 at 8:00 p.m.
In the book, one of the world’s most revered and charismatic Jewish leaders recounts his story of survival in one of the Nazis’ deadliest concentration camps, his life after the war and his ascension to Chief Rabbi. Rabbi Genack directs the world’s largest and most prestigious kosher certifying agency and in addition, supervises the increasingly large output of OU Press, which now includes Out of the Depths.
In another 92nd Street Y event with a connection to OU Press, the Y will present The State of World Jewry Lecture by Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, Chief Rabbi of The United Kingdom, on Sunday, October 30 at 1:00 p.m. Rabbi Sacks provided commentary and translation of the prayers in the Koren Sacks Siddur, published jointly in 2008 by OU Press and Koren Publishers of Jerusalem.
