OU’s Stephen Savitsky to Visit Cleveland as Scholar-in-Residence, 10/26-27

19 Oct 2012

STEPHEN SAVITSKY, OU CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD, TO VISIT CLEVELAND AS GREEN ROAD SYNAGOGUE SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE, OCTOBER 26-27

Stephen J. Savitsky, Orthodox Union Chairman of the Board and a three-time President of the organization before assuming his current role, will visit Cleveland as the Scholar-in-Residence at Green Road Synagogue the weekend of Friday, October 26-Saturday, October 27 (Shabbat Parshat Lech Lecha). The OU member synagogue is located at 2437 S. Green Road in Beachwood.

Mr. Savitsky’s visit is part of a Community Weekend, hosted by the Karasik Department of Synagogue Services of the Orthodox Union.

Friday night, Mr. Savitsky will speak at a private home beginning at 8:30 p.m. to discuss “The OU and Ohav Sholom: A Partnership that Guarantees Jewish Continuity.”

Shabbat morning following services (at 11:15 a.m.) he will discuss “The Torah’s Secret Mitzvah for a Long and Meaningful Life.”

Rabbi Binyamin Blau, Spiritual Leader of Green Road Synagogue, stated, “Green Road Synagogue and the entire Cleveland community are excited to have Mr. Stephen Savitsky serve as our Scholar-in-Residence. We are looking forward to hearing his insights and wisdom on the pressing issues facing Orthodoxy today, while simultaneously showcasing our own wonderful kehilla. It is our hope that we will emerge from the weekend enlightened and informed, and that the Orthodox Union will partner with us in growing our community.”

During his six-year OU presidency, New York-based Mr. Savitsky often visited Jewish communities large and small as part of a North American tour to bring the OU message far and wide, while at the same time receiving feedback from OU member congregations about their needs and how the OU could respond to them. He continues these visits as Chairman of the Board, his position since January 2011.
