OU’s Rabbi Weil Speaks at Young Israel of Scarsdale, 3/23-24

15 Mar 2012

RABBI STEVEN WEIL, OU EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, TO SERVE AS SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE AT YOUNG ISRAEL OF SCARSDALE, MARCH 23-24

Orthodox Union Executive Vice President Rabbi Steven Weil will serve as Scholar–in-Residence at the Young Israel of Scarsdale for Friday, March 23-Saturday, March 24, Shabbat Parshat Vayikra (Parshat HaChodesh). The OU member synagogue is located at 1313 Weaver Street.

During a Friday night reception at the synagogue, Rabbi Weil will give his popular presentation, “Men Are From Mars, Women From Venus: The Orthodox Version.” Shabbat morning, he will discuss “Don’t Jew Me: The First Camp David Accord.” After services, Rabbi Weil will give a class discussing “A Strange Choice.” He will speak during seudat shlishit on “The World’s Most Complicated Leader.”

Rabbi Jonathan Morgenstern, Rabbi of the synagogue, stated, “This Shabbat is a commemoration of the fourth yahrzeit of Rabbi and Jacob and Deborah Rubenstein z”l, who were tragically killed in a house fire on Shabbat HaGadol in 2008. They were leaders of the Young Israel of Scarsdale and of the greater Orthodox community for a quarter century. What greater honor could we give to their memory than to have Rabbi Steven Weil, who is the world-wide representative of the Orthodox world in his role at the Orthodox Union, lead a Shabbat of Torah learning and inspiration in their merit. Rabbi Weil was also a personal acquaintance of Rabbi Rubenstein z”l and they shared very similar outlooks on life. I am looking forward to hearing his messages about Jewish leadership, Family, Zionism, and Ahavat Yisrael (love of the Jewish people) over the course of the Rubenstein Yahrzeit Shabbat.”
