OU’s Rabbi Burg and Rabbi Berman to Speak at Memphis Synagogues, April 27-28

ORTHODOX UNION’S RABBI STEVEN BURG AND RABBI AVI BERMAN TO SPEAK AT MEMPHIS SYNAGOGUES FOR OU COMMUNITY WEEKEND, APRIL 27-28: RABBI BURG AT BARON HIRSCH AND RABBI BERMAN AT ANSHEI SPHARD

Rabbi Steven Burg, Managing Director of the Orthodox Union and International Director of NCSY, is going to Memphis.

Rabbi Burg, who is also International Director of NCSY, will speak at the Baron Hirsch Synagogue and Rabbi Berman will serve as Scholar-in-Residence at Anshei Sphard Beth El Emeth.

The theme of the weekend is “The Jewish World of Today and the Jewish World of Tomorrow.” Rabbi Burg’s presentations will focus on the Jewish community of Memphis and worldwide; how we are engaging our community; and whether we are doing it effectively.

On Shabbat morning, Rabbi Burg will deliver the drasha on “A Sincere Look at Cynicism: How to Cultivate Passion and Spirituality.” Following morning services, there will be a luncheon for young families with elementary or high school age children. At 6:00 p.m., Rabbi Burg will give a class, “Should We Still Be Doing Outreach– An Honest Accounting of Communal Priorities.” At 6:20 p.m., during Shalosh Seudah, Rabbi Burg will present “An Update from the OU.”

At Anshei Sphard Beth El Emeth, Rabbi Berman will speak on Shabbat morning at 10:30 on “Will the Jewish State stay Jewish?” followed at 11:30 a.m. bya teen session, “Experiencing Israel the way only a teen can.” On Saturday night he will speak on “Behind the politics: Israel and the state of American Jews.”
