OU PRESS ANNOUNCES LAUNCH EVENTS IN NEW ROCHELLE, OCTOBER 6, AND TEANECK, OCTOBER 27, TO CELEBRATE PUBLICATION OF CHUMASH MESORAS HARAV ON SEFER BEREISHIS (GENESIS), WITH COMMENTARY OF RABBI JOSEPH B. SOLOVEITCHIK, THE RAV

OU Press | Jewish Educational Publications, the publishing division of the Orthodox Union, announces the publication of the Chumash Mesoras HaRav on Sefer Bereishis (Genesis). Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, reverently called “the Rav” by his students, was the towering rabbinic personality of the 20th Century, and now, for the first time, one can have the benefit of the Rav’s profound and creative insights on Chumash on the same page as the text which they interpret.

To celebrate this landmark publishing event, the OU Press is planning two launch events in the New York area. Copies of the Chumash will be on sale at the launch events. The Chumash is also available at www.oupress.org.

On Sunday, October 6, beginning at 9:15 a.m., a launch event will be held at the Young Israel of New Rochelle, 1149 North Avenue. Rabbi Steven Weil, executive vice president of the Orthodox Union, and Rabbi Hayyim Angel, renowned Tanach teacher and scholar, will speak.

On Sunday, October 27, beginning at 8:00 p.m., Rabbi Jacob J. Schacter, renowned scholar and student of the Rav’s teachings, will be the featured speaker at the launch event held at Congregation Keter Torah, 600 Roemer Avenue in Teaneck.

The Chumash Mesoras HaRav is an invaluable addition to any Jewish library, and should find a well-earned place serving both congregations and individuals.

The Mesoras HaRav commentary is drawn from the Rav’s books and essays, tapes of his lectures and shiurim, and reliable renderings of the Rav’s thought; it and is certain to take its place as a modern day classic of Jewish thought. Rabbi Menachem Genack, general editor of OU Press, contributed a Foreword to the volume.

Skillfully compiled and edited by Dr. Arnold Lustiger, the new Chumash takes its place with the other OU Press publications of the Rav, including commentary that appeared in the Mesoras HaRav Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Machzorim; the Rav’s commentary that appeared in the Koren Mesorat HaRav Siddur; and the Rav’s commentary that appeared in the Koren Mesorat HaRav Kinot for Tisha B’Av.

The Chumash was dedicated by the Neuwirth family of New Rochelle on the occasion of their son Oren’s bar mitzvah.
