OU AND WEST SIDE SYNAGOGUES AND SCHOOLS PRESENT A COMMUNITY-WIDE POSITIVE JEWISH PARENTING PROGRAM: “GIVING THE MOST TO OUR CHILDREN AND GETTING THE MOST OUT OF BEING A PARENT,” FEBRUARY 13 AT MANHATTAN DAY SCHOOL
The Orthodox Union, in conjunction with the Vaad Harabanim of The West Side and the Upper West Side Parenting Series, will present a community-wide Positive Jewish Parenting program: “Giving the Most to Our Children and Getting the Most Out of Being a Parent: A communal conference for parents on strengthening practical parenting skills with useful advice, ideas and suggestions.”
This free program, open to the entire community, will be held on Sunday, February 13 from 9:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m. at the Manhattan Day School, 310 West 75th Street, and will feature Rabbi Ralph Pelcovitz and Dr. David Pelcovitz; Dr. David Lieberman and Dr. Isabel Pascale. Breakfast and group childcare (ages 3-10) will be available with advance registration.
The program is part of the OU’s “Positive Jewish Parenting” initiative.

According to Frank Buchweitz, OU National Director of Community Services | Jewish Community Programs and Special Projects: “How can today’s parents best raise a child with all of the challenges of society? What are the tools essential for raising successful and happy children? Answering these critical questions is the goal of our keynote presentation addressing parental concerns, including how to: motivate your children, instill values, teach them to cope with anger, deal with peer pressure, respond to contemporary challenges, and other issues. The workshops will expand on these topics.”
Rabbi and Dr. Pelcovitz, an exemplary father and son role modeling team who co-authored “Balenced Parenting” on child rearing, will present the keynote address: Balanced Parenting: How to Raise Children with Jewish Values in our Challenging World. Rabbi Pelcovitz, renowned Rabbi Emeritus of the famed Congregation Knesseth Israel, the “White Shul,” of Far Rockaway, has taught, guided and inspired thousands of men women and children. Among his writings is Table Talk, a compilation of insights on the weekly Torah reading.
His equally distinguished son, Dr. David Pelcovitz, a regular at OU parenting and marriage events, is a professor at Yeshiva University’s Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and teaches courses in pastoral psychology at the university’s affiliated RIETS rabbinical seminary.
Two workshops will be offered after the keynote on significant issues. They are as follows:
• Instilling and Strengthening Positive Self-Esteem in Children, with Dr. David Lieberman, an award-winning author and internationally recognized leader in the field of human behavior and interpersonal relationships. He has written two New York Times bestsellers; and
• Developing Reading/Language Skills in Young Children, with Dr. Isabel Pascale, Professor Emeritus at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus, who was named one of New York’s outstanding and effective educators and serves now as a consultant/trainer on educational issues.
