OU HONORS YACHAD, NATIONAL JEWISH COUNCIL FOR DISABILITIES, ON ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY
The Orthodox Union paid tribute to Yachad, the National Jewish Council for Disabilities, on its 25th anniversary, at the OU’s 111th Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation Sunday in New York. Yachad is an agency of the OU. The evening featured Yachad families; an emotionally stirring video; as well as Yachad’s two National Directors for the quarter-century of its existence, Chana Zweiter, who first brought the program to the OU; and Dr. Jeffrey Lichtman, who has been in his position since 1989.
“Yachad members, family members, staff old and new, B’Yachad, coming together, celebrating 25 years of such momentous accomplishment — amidst so much effort, sweat and tears — was an emotional high without peer,” Dr. Lichtman said. “It was cathartic, uplifting, and bittersweet all at the same time!”
In a message in the souvenir Journal published for the event, OU President Stephen J. Savitsky declared, “We are extremely proud that Yachad and all of its wonderful accomplishments are a part of the Orthodox Union family. The services and programs that Yachad provide are unparalleled in the Jewish community.”
